Not to sound all Bawwww, but I know depression, and it is a whole different emotion from sadness and anxiety. It's morbid, just dark and bleak.

I dunno, I think 'depression' plausibly gets used to describe the sort of emotional states that medical depression (which I think is physiological?) tends to cause.

Incidentally I just looked up wiktionary's definition of emotion and it's pretty racist against animals, it has a separate definition of non-human 'emotion' in terms of human-like reactions. I don't think animals have to respond like humans to have emotions, so long as they have recognisable behavioural states that appear to be the product of complex neurological states. And it's definition of 'person' is universally homo-sapiens. Vulcans are people too!
