Let me guess... it's about Wood Kitchen Cabinets?
I'm refining my earlier estimate of of one million ghosts, down to several thousand. It is still a cause for concern.

You can never kill them ALL. All you can do is barricade yourself inside with plenty of supplies and loaded shotguns trained at all possible entry points.

You really think the bot would have known to go for natural, woody colours. It doesn't take a human to figure that out.
Believe me now, or believe me later.

Huh, the bot found a relevant thread. Good work, bot. English skills 7/10, fell off a bit at the end there. Also 10/10 for duh in the first sentence.

o.O Just saying we'd probably get more people to stick around that way, since they wouldn't just leave

I started this thread just over 2 years ago, and I don't think we've actually changed the website since then, aside from overhauling the forum which was the one thing feedback suggested we shouldn't do.

I think we need to go back to the drawing board and figure out exactly what we want the site to do. Here's my thoughts:
1) Make cool people go to the forum
2) Make dumb people click adverts
3) Use the influx to generate buzz on social networking sites
4) Actually provide benefit to visitors, connecting them with more things they'll like

Now an obvious problem here is that DP will probably never make anything worthwhile again because the other guys are busy and I'm even lazier than before. So in order to make the site relevant I think we'll have to move to the lazy model where we link people to new things OTHER people are doing, which shouldn't be too hard cos George's job keeps him on the cutting edge of the gaming industry, and I spend all day looking at dumb internet shit. I think the trick will be being casual and varied enough that we're more interesting than the legions of lameass NG clones out there, but not SO casual and varied that we become some silly personal 'shit nobody cares about' blog.

Anyway here's the current plan I'm musing on. As you can see I'm taking this deadly serious.

Who's going to link to the content, mods or users? Personally, I would allow users to link to content, but require mod approval before it gets posted.

Mods. Or, to be precise, probably just me and sometimes George. I was always in favour of building a community system around DP and if I'd been a bit more on the ball with that it might have been worthwhile, but now user-content is such big business we'd be competing with too many other sources, and besides with the miniscule userbase we have at the moment it's just not worth the hassle of trying to do the security and infrastructure properly. Much more effective to just provide a simple, decent-quality flash site with our trademark high-quality community attached to it like a particularly witty moray eel.

Of course, an informal submission system, i.e. you guys post shit on the forum and I steal it for the main site, would be no trouble at all, and something I'd try to encourage.
